Captain Pugwash Afloat!
Captain Pugwash (AKA Mr Methane) fulfilled a long held dream today and set sail for the wee island in the middle of the School Loch……here he is heading offshore towards the island
Landing proved to be tricky (and frankly we think he was worried about being stranded!)
From another angle you can clearly see the risks this man was taking to achieve his dream…..just look how far out he is from the shore
and in an act of the ultimate courage…….no hands!
Finally coming ashore to explore his own back garden….Avast Me Hearties!
One other nautical picture - the clever machine in Loch Grimshader which collects seaweed for making Gaviscon! Apparently this came all the way from the Everglades (that’s past Ullapool I believe)

Seaweed for making Gaviscon? Really?
Yes…..just Googled…..have a look at these:

Good heavens, Sarahmac. They don’t mention that in their ads - are they the ones with the firemen? What an eye-opener!
Mr Methane indeed….bizarre how that links into brown Seaweed link but brilliant and very interesting..imho…….RJG
I never felt more pride in my hubby as he set sail for his big expedition this morning. I swear it brought a tear to my eye.
Seems funny my middle daughter having to take Gaviscon several times a day and they harvest the seaweed outside our front door!
I used to get terrrible heartburn when pregnant, and kept a bottle of Gaviscon by the bed for midnight swigs.. until my husband pointed out that I’d answered the door to the postie with a big white chalky ring round my mouth. I never knew it was made from seaweed either, you are a veritable mine of information, Sarah. and Captain Pugwash is a brave and intrepid traveller. You SHOULD be proud of him, Rusty.
Ps ,glad to see you back RJG !
TWO Captain Pugwashes on ONE Island Blog! Egad!! Pugwash II is clearly also vastly intrepid and enterprising. Mr. Methane carries a whiff of rotteness (should there be 2 “n”s there?) but also promises of biogas for the future.
Seaweeds provide goodies for a number of products including ice-cream softener.
Hate heartburn have to use Zantac or get Omeprazole from Docs. Interesting about the seaweed.
Glad Capt Pugwash got there and back again.
I shall leave with a terrible joke:
Why did the Coral Blush?
Because the Seaweed
I’ll get me coat…..
I am sure there is room on IB for two Cap’n Pugwashes, Barney, don’t be getting all of a kerfuffle now… as I tell my creche children all the time, there’s plenty room in the castle for two/ people with red hair/ glasses…also ALWAYS tell a creche lady if you need a wee.. perhaps this last not quite so appropriate for you Barney dear, but might come in useful one day…
Absolutetly, LL, the more intrepid mariners there are on IB the better for all IB:ers! And the Captain, subject of this blog, is indeed intrepid to trust his all-and-only to the yellow peril. Regarding your advice about creche ladies, I will try to remember it when in an appropriate situation.
Barney…Captain Pugwash post from GravirLife is an Independent Blog (not part of IB) and my comment on SM Captain Pugwash was sent from Cyberspace/Freeworld. Looking at your profile, you are the true Captain, Mr Yachtsman.
And what a purrofile it is too by Jove!
This here Cap’n Pugwash seems to do things on a smaller scale than the original
Watch it, FC, I am hoping to meet up with your pus in a few weeks and any lip from you - or tongue in cheek stuff - may meet with appropriate reprisals. We Pugwashes stand together - to stop us from falling over.
You must be very tightly packed…like a tin of Harry Secombes…
Thankkkkkkkkkkkk you.
We have included your blog in our guide Around The World.
The guide is both a record of old blogs and a listing of new blogs. Although originally arising from the “City Daily Photo Blog” lists this is an independent publication. Inclusion here does not imply that a blog qualifies for nor is officially a CDPB. Our criteria are that photographs mainly from and related to a specific geographical location (not necessarily a “city” but usually more specific than a whole country or region) are posted at dated intervals (not necessarily daily) and archives are kept which are readily searchable by date.
Please keep us informed of any changes to your details.
